Into the Dark: Down (2019)

This is a TV movie. For those of you who may not be aware, there is a rather unusual American anthology horror TV series from Hulu, called Into The Dark, which has 12 episodes with one episode being aired per month in the year. Each episode will feature a stand alone tale of horror themed around a holiday found within the month the episode is being aired. The series began last October with a Halloween theme episode.

The latest episode for this month, February, has a Valentine's Day spin to it. Its premise is simple .. two office workers, a male and a female, gets trapped in the lift over Valentine's Day weekend, when their lift malfunction late in the evening when everybody else has already left the building. Things starts off innocently enough and its fun to see the two characters getting acquainted and eventually flirt with each other over the course of time. But this is Into the Dark, so you know things will go horribly wrong by the end. In fact the film's opening scene provided plenty of "spoilers" on the eventual outcome with quick flashes of images of the aftermath.

Despite its predictable path, I actually found myself engaged throughout the film's 70 minutes. Its basically a two actors play and the film's success or failure will depend very much on the film's script, and the performance from the two attractive leads. I felt they met the mark and thought this was one of the better episodes from the series so far. It wasn't ambitious in its approach, and I think that is precisely the reason why I thought it worked out better than expected. I recommend this for those of you who like a nice little late night horror before bedtime.
