Into the Dark: All That We Destroy (2019)
May's entry in the Into the Dark anthology TV series from Hulu, looks like its most ambitious one yet. This month's story pays tribute to Mother's Day and takes place in a future where human cloning is possible. The story focus on a scientist who has perfected the art of cloning and makes use of that technology to help cure her son's urge to kill young women. It feels almost like a Black Mirror episode where some sort of future technology is introduced that somehow gets misused with horrifying consequences.
I thought the episode was one of the best in the series in the way the story unfolded. Giving us information a bit at a time and letting us discover the dark background gradually. I also thought the performances from the main cast, Samantha Mathis as the over protective scientist mother, and Isreal Broussard as the sociopathic son, were effective in making these characters come alive. Although the story may appear to be thin, All That We Destroy, never lets up on the tension and makes use of its relatively short running time effectively.
If you like your horror spiced with a dash of science fiction, and human drama, then this month's episode should be an enjoyable one. This is a relief, given the dude episodes for the past few month.
