Into the Dark: Crawlers (2020)

Rating: ⭐⭐

March's episode for Into the Dark celebrates St Patrick's Day. This festival is supposed to be a cultural and religious festival to mark the death of a patron saint from Ireland which is celebrated on the 17th of March each year. Typically we are told that this holiday in America is celebrated by groups of friends drinking from bar to bar! Bar crawlers is the term used and hence the title of this month's episode which follows a group of crawlers who have to encounter and escape from aliens who have invaded earth and capable of doppelganger their victims after taking a bite of flesh off them (zombies style). Sounds like fun? No?

Sadly ... no ... This is yet another failed episode as it offers nothing new. Watching a bunch of half wit people getting themselves killed and escaping from body snatching aliens is just not entertaining as we have seen this done before many times and better. The jokes are not funny, and the characters' background stories are not appealing enough for the viewers to care if they survive or not. In fact, watching it makes you wish the aliens got to all of them really quickly.

One small consolation may be that this episode is not as bad as the previous episode for February (My Valentine) which was the pits. At the rate of the quality of Into the Dark episodes have been lately, I may give the series a miss for the remaining of the year. It's a pity because I have always been a fan of anthology series particularly those with a horror theme, because these series often have the freedom to surprise and be different while keeping to a tight one hour runtime. Into the Dark has so far have more misses than hits with some of the worst episodes in the new season. I am not sure if this is because my standard has gone up or the standard has really been dropping. Anyway, this is just my opinion and my sharing with anyone out there who may have similar fondness of this genre.
