The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019)

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

As the Covid-19 virus cast its shadows globally, many of us are doing our part in combating this unseen enemy simply by staying indoors to prevent the virus from spreading. One way to help you pass the time at home is of course the television. Perhaps you should try not watching the depressing news channels all the time, and divert some attention to some good old fashion movies or tv series.

Talking about good old fashion movies, give "The Art of Racing In The Rain" a look if you don't mind a bit of old fashion style family movie about an adorable couple with an adorable child and an adorable dog named Enzo. All's not always well as a family tragedy changes the lives of everybody. The story is told from the dog's point of view and veteran star Kevin Costner does a fine job in instilling life to an otherwise rather lifeless golden retriever. Four stars to Kevin Costner and 2 stars to the dog. I guess we should be grateful the producers did not opt for a CGI dog as what I understand was done in the recent Harrison Ford movie The Call of the Wild! That is a different movie and we will come back to that in due time with a review. Happily despite the lack of screen presence of Enzo, the rest of the human cast does very well to carry the film through its emotional ups and downs. Milo Ventimiglia (best known for the TV series This Is Us) and Amanda Seyfried take on the human lead roles as the attractive and adorable couple. Although some may complain that the soppy tale is predictable, I beg to differ as I feel the delivery of the story is more important and here, our stars does that beautifully.

So if you are in the mood for a bit of laughter, a bit of crying and a canine hero to root for, give The Art of Racing in the Rain a try. This is not going to win any movie awards but at least it will help provide you about two hours relief from the reality happening around us. Meanwhile stay home and keep safe and healthy everybody.
